This will be my fourth trip to Arizona for the annual AZ Run put on by nissan4wheelers.com. It will be the third year for the boys.
This year, my good friend Zach will be coming along with his Tacoma. He will be accompanied by his cousin and his girlfriend.

I will have both boys with me once again. In fact, Dustin turned down an opportunity to go to Disny with the marching band in order to go to Arizona instead. He didn't hesitate to make his decision, so I know there are no regrets there.

I still have a list of repairs and improvements that I would like to get through before the second week in March, when the Run takes place. I have done a fair amount of work although unforseen problems keep popping up.
I don't let it bother me, because I am actually grateful that they happened "in the driveway" and not down the road later. I feel that God is with us on this trip as He always has been on previous trips. I am confident, that without God's direction, these AZ trips would not happen.

Every year, He provides just enough, just in time to make the trip and the return possible. I keep getting the feeling that there is something that I am supposed to do for Him out there. Or parhaps I am already doing it? Who am I to question it? All I know is that I feel drawn to go, and the means are provided. I am just responding to the call.

So there I was at the redlight just off of the interstate. It is a two lane ramp that joins a five lane main drag through town. Morning commute. I was in the right lane at the stop line.
I hear the distinct sound of a v-twin coming up next to me. I look left to see a pretty, late-model Harley Sportster. The rider is wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt.
I give him a nod, but he continues to look straight ahead. I turn my head forward again, then quickly look left to catch him looking my way. I nod again, and this time he nods back.

I love how my full face helmet hides my facial expressions.

The light turns green and he roars off, full throttle. His rediculously loud pipes bark obnoxiously as I ease out in first. He bangs through three gears, making more noise than speed. I go 'click' and ease up through second. I keep it there because it is a 35 mph construction zone. Harley dude rages on, literally hurting my ears.

A car from the oncoming lane decides to make a sudden, angular left turn across three lanes to get to a side street in front of Harley squid. If the guy hadn't let out of it a few seconds earlier like he did, he would have hit the car. As it was, he had to use brakes to safely miss it.

A half block later, he has to stop in the left turn lane while I roll quiety past him to stop at the red light.

I wonder if he has any idea how I saw him; what I thought of him. I wonder if he knew I could have waxed him in first gear before the front wheel ever came beck to pavement.
I'm glad i took the low road. One idiot on any given stretch of road is more than sufficient without me joining in the fray. I won't say that I don't show my as much as the next guy. I just don't give the holier than thou attitude.
I was pertty proud of myself.

I am so excited I can hardly contain myself.

I have been looking at used bikes in the area for a while now and have taken out a small loan. I figured out that a motorcycle in the $2,000 to $3,000 range will pay for itself in less than two years in fuel savings alone. Not to mention the fact that I won't have to run on my new mud tires all the time.

A bike would also make it easier to work on the truck without rushing to get it back together for work the next day.

I have been a motorcyclist all of my life except for the past several years. I had a street bike until 2000, and I still have dirt bikes in the shed, though I have not riden them in some time either.

As for my latest endeaver, I have narrowed the possibilities to a Triumph Daytona T595 and a Yamaha YZF600R. I have not been able to get in contact with the owner of the Triumph and the Yamaha is actually more practical for me. My plan now is to set up a meeting, then take Friday off and buy the bike, insurance and license plate. Can you imagine my excitement? I have been waiting weeks for the loan check to show up and clear at the bank. The funds become available Friday and I will buy something tomorrow.

Based on my math I will save between $100 and $200 a month in fuel. Essentually, as long as I ride it as often as possible, I will have a free motorcycle in about one year. How awesome is that?!

This is like the one I plan to buy:

Specter and I, Zach and our friend Jacob threw our packs in the trucks and headed out behind Fridays band of storms. We got to the trailhead at nightfall, but found our way just fine.

The early evening was humid but not very hot. The area that we hiked did not get much rain from the storms.

We found plenty of fat lighter along the last stretch of trail to easily and quickly get a fire going. We worked as a team to set up the tents. After that it was time to relax and enjoy life.

The night got cool, but not cold. By morning the air was clear and dry. Not a cloud in the sky. We spent the morning very leisurely. We played in the creek a while, then broke camp and headed out around 1:00. It never did get hot. It was about as perfect as weather could be for a hike.

The Story of Stone Soup

Once upon a time, somewhere in post-war Eastern Europe, there was a great famine in which people jealously hoarded whatever food they could find, hiding it even from their friends and neighbors. One day a wandering soldier came into a village and began asking questions as if he planned to stay for the night.

"There's not a bite to eat in the whole province," he was told. "Better keep moving on."

"Oh, I have everything I need," he said. "In fact, I was thinking of making some stone soup to share with all of you." He pulled an iron cauldron from his wagon, filled it with water, and built a fire under it. Then, with great ceremony, he drew an ordinary-looking stone from a velvet bag and dropped it into the water.

By now, hearing the rumor of food, most of the villagers had come to the square or watched from their windows. As the soldier sniffed the "broth" and licked his lips in anticipation, hunger began to overcome their skepticism.

"Ahh," the soldier said to himself rather loudly, "I do like a tasty stone soup. Of course, stone soup with cabbage -- that's hard to beat."

Soon a villager approached hesitantly, holding a cabbage he'd retrieved from its hiding place, and added it to the pot. "Capital!" cried the soldier. "You know, I once had stone soup with cabbage and a bit of salt beef as well, and it was fit for a king."

The village butcher managed to find some salt beef . . . and so it went, through potatoes, onions, carrots, mushrooms, and so on, until there was indeed a delicious meal for all. The villagers offered the soldier a great deal of money for the magic stone, but he refused to sell and traveled on the next day. The moral is that by working together, with everyone contributing what they can, a greater good is achieved.

How is your life going? Have you stopped to think about it lately? I mean that on a broad scale. Is your life how you wanted it to be at this point? Is it better/worse? Did it take a completely different path that what you originally planned? Did you even plan how you wanted it to go?

Answer that however you would like. The plan here is to open a discussion that will get you thinking about the course of your life, and where it is headed.

As for me, I would have to say that I am content with where I am, but not fully satisfied with where I am at in terms of providing for my family. I do not yet own my own home. We seem to have to scrape by on everything. I wish I were financially secure enough to help others, but so often I cannot provide for my own family like they deserve.
I am 47, and in pretty good physical shape due to a recent change in my lifestyle. I started dieting and excercising (roller skating). I still have more weight to lose, but I am struggling with that at the moment. I seem to have lost some will power.

I won't discuss my wife's or my children's lives here, but I will say that I am very proud of my family. I think we are better than average on many accounts.

I see more of the same in my future, but I would like to grow closer to my wife when the boys mature and move out. We have put our individual needs on hold to raise two children, and I look forward to the two of us travelling and doing things again. Right now we mainly do things that center around the boys, which is fine. We enjoy it.

I have hobbies and projects, but they have fallen way down the list of importance. I don't need hobbies to fill my days now. I only need them to keep some of my individuallity.

I hope my new eating and excercising trends become permanent habits, because I sure don't want to have to go through losing a bunch of weight again. It is hard to do.

I purchased and took over Mississippi-mud.com in January of 2010. To date, it has been about eleven months since that happened.

When I was faced with the opportunity to buy the site, I knew nothing more than how to change settings on the forum's control panel. Thanks to the patience and help of the previous owner, the transition went rather smoothly. Looking back, there are a number of things I could have done better, but I was ignorant of that fact.

The aquisition and transfer were monetarily and physically demanding on me. I had to shell out hard-earned money in good faith. Hundreds of dollars went into this endeavor. I will probably not see that money come back to me for at least three years. I consider it worth while, however. The site brings good people together. You can't put a price on what the site and community mean to me.

I spent many countless hours pulling my hair out, praying, and searching for help and answers. I simply did not know anything. All I know came from others, or from sheer determination to figure out a solution to each problem.

The worst part was the sleep deprivation. I quickly got into a pattern of only getting a few hours sleep each night. I was working on the site night and day, and sometimes at work. I was on a mission even if I could not keep my eyes open.

All of that is behind me now, but I still don't get enough sleep. It became such a habit to stay up late that I have never gone back to a healthy sleep habit.

On top of all that, I created two more sites. This site is here as my "primary domain" for hosting purposes, and it also serves as my test site. It is better to risk messing up this site than on of the others.

I created southernskater.com as a personal project. I could do it for nearly no monetary cost, and could rise to the challenge of creating a site from scratch. All I can say is that it has been humbling. Starting a site is easy. Building a web community is hard.

In the past year I have learned things that I had no idea I would need to learn, but with the increase in local forums, I feel the need to be the best, most premium off-road site in the region. I want my sites to be the sites that set the standard for what is expected. Over the I have been flattered by how much of my content and organization has been copied by other sites. Since I cannot stop them, all I can do is stay ahead of them. That has proven to be a difficult but rewarding hobby.

I am very proud of my achievements this past year. I have laid the groundwork for strong growth. Most of the work is invisible, but in time will yield great improvements and web presence.

I often wonder why people are surprised when I actually do what I say I am going to do, even though I always do what I say I am going to do.
I am finally beginning to understand why; it is because they are used to being let down by others. It seems that when someone gives their word to do something, there is no bond; no accountability. If they do it, great. If not, no problem.

I was not raised that way. I was brought up to understand that a man's word is his bond. If he commits to doing something, he should see it through to the end, or offer a fair resolution.

I get so tired of people just quitting and walking away because things didn't go their way. TOO BAD! Be a man and at least face those whom you promised your deeds to and give them an HONEST reason why you are going to dissappoint them. It is hard to forgive someone who just slinks away.

I write this because I have recently been let down by people who were lifting me up. One in particular spoke elloquently about committment, yet walked away without a proper goodbye. COWARD!

My faith in man is once again shaken to the foundation, but God is always with me. He fills in the empty places with His love and strength that I may not become like those who do not do what they promised.

I know I cannot go through this life on my own. I will have to lean on others along the way, but times like this just harden me even more. They have no idea the effect they have.

I will send the other portion to the other party as requested.
I got a Hungarian cap (that was made in China), and a Hungarian sticker. I don't know what these stickers are called, though. Also, what is the official purpose of them?

I have owned what is now known as the Flaming Marshmallow for five years now. It has come a long way from being known as The Battleship.

Now it is finally time to "step my game up". I have decided to do a solid axle swap, or SAS for short. That is where the factory "a-arm" suspension is cut off of the frame, and a conventional "straight" front axle is adapted to the truck.
This is the type of axle you would find in many full-size pickups and almost all Jeeps. The center portion of the axle is similar to a straight rear axle, but with steerable ends.

It is a highly technical process, and a very critical, major modification. If not done correctly, it can render the vehicle unsafe to drive. Fortunately, I have many successful SAS write-ups to guide me, plus a couple of friend who do this sort of work that I can call on any time.

The first step is gathering the components and adaptor items that will be needed. I plan to refurbish used parts as much as possible, and fabricate the brackets and other components in order to save money. This will take longer than buying new parts, but I simply do not have a budget for this.

So far I have an axle housing and outers for a Ford/Dana 44 High Pinion with 4.56:1 gears on a welded carrier. I believe thatthis is a close enough match to my existing 4.63:1 gearing, so I won't have to buy gears.

I am planning to narrow it to match my existing axles. I also plan to swap the 5-lug outers for 6-lug.

Back in the mid to late 80s, I was racing dirt bikes in the East Coast Enduro Association, and playing in a hard rock and metal band called Mercury. We lived and played in the Atlantic City area. We did alot of local parties, small biker rallies, races, and a few clubs in the area.

We had alot of good times and good memories. I eventually married the drummers sister.
