Buying a motorcycle

Buying a motorcycle
I am so excited I can hardly contain myself. Hyper

I have been looking at used bikes in the area for a while now and have taken out a small loan. I figured out that a motorcycle in the $2,000 to $3,000 range will pay for itself in less than two years in fuel savings alone. Not to mention the fact that I won't have to run on my new mud tires all the time.

A bike would also make it easier to work on the truck without rushing to get it back together for work the next day.

I have been a motorcyclist all of my life except for the past several years. I had a street bike until 2000, and I still have dirt bikes in the shed, though I have not riden them in some time either. Confused

As for my latest endeaver, I have narrowed the possibilities to a Triumph Daytona T595 and a Yamaha YZF600R. I have not been able to get in contact with the owner of the Triumph and the Yamaha is actually more practical for me. My plan now is to set up a meeting, then take Friday off and buy the bike, insurance and license plate. Can you imagine my excitement? I have been waiting weeks for the loan check to show up and clear at the bank. The funds become available Friday and I will buy something tomorrow.

Based on my math I will save between $100 and $200 a month in fuel. Essentually, as long as I ride it as often as possible, I will have a free motorcycle in about one year. How awesome is that?!

This is like the one I plan to buy:

RE: Buying a motorcycle
My check cleared at the bank, so I can get the money today, then buy the bike this evening. WooHoo!! I took Friday off, so I can get insurance and tag. Then I have a day off to ride all stinking day. I probably won't eat or sleep for the next few days.

RE: Buying a motorcycle
Well, it worked out. I bought the Yamaha, and things worked out better than originally planned. I never expected such a nice motorcycle within my budget.
I Borrowed $3,000 and ended up with the bike and enough money leftover to buy a few things to go along with it. My favorite accessory so far is a Feildsheer AR9 protective jacket with removable liner. It is super well designed and comfortable. It offers more protection than my leather jacket, also.

I rode it to work this morning for the first time and really enjoyed it. As a bonus, I got to give a passing wave to Tony, the guy I bought it from. He works on a road construction crew (MDOT) and was standing roadside as I passed. He looked as excited as me, all smiling and waving. Hiya

RE: Buying a motorcycle
It has been a weed since I bought the bike. I replaced teh bad fuel sensor, which stopped the error code displayed on the tach. (That was annoying).
I found out that K&N air filters for these bikes tend to rip at a folded seam. That's how mine was when I went to clean and re-oil it. I was able to repair it, but am researching the best replacement option.

God has been gracious. The weather has been very nice for riding. This machine offers little wid protection, so I expect that to be a problem when the cooler weather gets here.

I have barely touched teh truck all week. If this keeps up, it might last forever. Big Grin

RE: Buying a motorcycle
In the first month and a half I went 4,000 miles on the motorcycle and only a few hundred with the truck. I calculated fuel savings a $550.00 for that time period.
I spent some money initially on safety gear and a few parts, so the actual savings hardly covered the loan payment, but those are one-time purchases.
I am about to put the first replacement tire on the back. That cost just under $150, but I would have used that much value from my truck tires in that much distance. You see, to date I have ridden 5,600 miles. Life is good. Smile

Are motorcycles popular in Hungary?

In every year more and more motors on the road.
But here the traffic moral is lower, the motoring offence is more than there.
(plus the roads, the traffic places are scant)
In this milieu, to ride the bike is dangerous.

I don't need to see my sons on motor. And I think it's the matter.
