Building a Better Board
My goal lately is to build a new version of the existing mississippi-mud.com. I want it to be very similar to what it is now, plus a chat box and better (easier) functionallity.
![]() Having a new, fresh look wouldn't suck, either. ![]() So far, I have gotten this board going as a test bed for the MyBB software. You see, I have to learn EVERYTHING about setting up and maintaining a site. I also have to pay for everything out of my pocket. That is not a problem howver, because it is a labor of love. I have been getting to bed too late all week because I am determined to have something to show for my efforts as soon as possible. It is starting to affect my job, so I need to pace myself. My biggest fear is messing up the existing ms-mud forum before I get a new board set up and tested. I am sure, however, with God's help, it will get done. I feel that He is leading me down this path. If that is the case, He will provide me with the tools I need as I need them. So far, this has been the case. I realize that this board, reserector.com, looks like crap and has nothing going on in it. That is because I do not want to waste time on this board. As I said; it is merely a test bed. I will develop it later. Reserector.com will eventually become a blog of sorts where I can post things that are going on im my life. It will be something that my Mother, friends, and coworkers can look at from time to time if the mood strikes them. It will also serve as an archive for pictures and articles that I post in other locations. A file cabinet, so to speak. Anyway, that is about the jist of it. I will post progress reports from time to time. Stay tuned....... -Res- Every Saint has a past. Every sinner has a future. RE: Building a Better Board
Argh! I am pulling my hair out trying to merge the ms-mud database with the new site software. It should be a simple matter of entering the right information in the correct fields of the configuration step of the install. It has not been that easy, though.Xout has been GREAT!! Very helpful. I couldn't do this without the support and patience he has shown me.

RE: Building a Better Board
I am going to temporarily switch off the MS-Mud site while I copy the database. A quick prayer and away we go.
Wish me luck, guys and gals.

RE: Building a Better Board
MS-Mud is down right now because I am backing up the database. It should come right back up as soon as the backup is complete.

RE: Building a Better Board
I must say that our hosting company, Lunerservers, has outstanding support. I had a really tricky database address problem, and they corresponded with me all weekend and resolved the problem. Hats off to Lunarservers!
![]() I am making good progress now. Once I copy our MS-Mud database to the new site, I can start adding functionallity. I will need a few testers to try to "break it" before I update the database one last time and switch to the new site once and for all. Of course our staff will be involved, but I may pull in a few others as well. It won't be long now before you can see the third server swap in our 5 year history. I expect it to be smooth and painless.

Now would be a good time to clean up some too. Inactive/banned members and the like.

My tip: when I'm reading the forums, and I need to return the first page, with click the big MMC logo.
Not to back the forums, back the first page. |
